NOT ACCEPTED: No Cold Packs, Foam, or Plastic Wraps

DO NOT place cold packs, foam materials, or plastic packaging in a City of Omaha curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container. Place these types of items in the garbage, or see Related Items below to find disposal options.

Where Else Could It Go?

EMPTY and CLEAN plastic bags, wraps, and foam materials can be placed in an orange Hefty® ReNew® bag. DO NOT include any paper materials, gel packs, or foil-lined bags. Only lightweight plastics and foam items are accepted.

First Star Recycling offers this special program to collect hard-to-recycle plastics in our community. To participate, you can purchase orange Hefty® ReNew® bags, which will be collected through your existing curbside and drop-off site services. When filled with accepted materials and tied shut, the bright orange Hefty® ReNew® bag is the ONLY bag that can be placed in a curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container. Ways to Reduce or Reuse

  • Reuse the recipe cards and cook your own meals at home, which creates less waste and saves money.
  • Refreeze ice packs to use later for packing a cooler, or as a cooling pack on sore muscles.
  • Reuse packing materials such as protective foam packaging or bubble wrap for shipping/storing fragile items.

Beware of Misleading Labels

Even if a label says "recyclable,” it's important to understand what material(s) your item is made of, and check the guidelines of your local recycling program. Just because something has a label does not mean it is accepted for recycling in every community. When in doubt, leave it out! It is better to place an item in the garbage than cause contamination. Include only accepted items in your recycling to help improve the overall quality of our community's recycled materials.
